In contrast to other crowded areas in the state, the Shasta Cascade can seem like undiscovered territory. It is a magnificent wildland with some of the states most unusual natural attractions. The tallest landmark amid the mountains, dense forests, and volcanoes, is Mount Shasta at 14,162 feet high. Powerful, crystal clear rivers flow through the great mountain ranges, ripe for fishing and gaming. Boaters pick from a variety of beautiful lakes, including Lake Shasta (a popular recreation ground), Trinity Lake, Eagle Lake, and Whiskeytown Lake, where you can also pan for gold.
