Ventura lies on the scenic stretch of the US 101 that extends from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles. Many surfers can be watched along California Street or visit the Surf museum. Ventura was once the original site of the Chumash Indian settlement, and is considered one of the oldest towns in the state. Mission San Buenaventura was founded in 1782 and sits inland from the town’s harbor.
